| Contemporary health behavior change textbooks rely primarily on predictive and explanatory theories of health behavior and frequently neglect discovery and facilitating theories. This presentation will describe progressive facilitatory theories and models that give meaning, optimism, and wisdom for individuals experiencing behavioral change processes described in traditional theories. Discovery theories such as string and molecular theories coupled with facilitatory self determination, resilience, and positive psychological theories shed light on the dimensions of social cognitive, reasoned action, planned behavior, ecological, and transtheoretical models and theories. Facilitatory theories provide deepened meanings to terms such as attitude, behavior, social support, intention and self efficacy. |
