Practical Strategies and Techniques for Enhancing Practice Quality
Consistent engagement in quality practice sessions is a key contributor to excellence in sport. The training of psychological skills needed to maximize the physical skills of athletes is often underrepresented in practice regimens. From research examining the practices of elite coaches, motor learning, and applied sport psychology, a number of components of quality practice sessions have emerged. These include incorporating mental toughness training into drills, providing effective types of feedback, developing concentration routines, and implementing simulated practice drills. This session will present specific strategies coaches can use to enhance the quality of their team’s practice sessions.
