Activities Facilitating Better Understanding and Social Acceptance of Students with Disabilities within Physical Activity Settings
The objective of this session is to introduce and demonstrate activities that are built upon an innovative program entitled “Feeling Accepted.” The program was designed to facilitate understanding and social acceptance of peers with disabilities within physical activity settings through the combination of disability awareness training and cooperative learning. Practical tips for classroom or gymnasium organization are presented along with ideas on effective implementation of the activities in physical education and health curriculum. In addition, the results from a study that examined the effectiveness of the program among middle school students will be presented.
