Women-Only Exercise Clubs: Who is Joining? Why are They Joining?
Women-only exercise venues are rapidly growing in all parts of the country. This presentation will describe the participants and their reasons for joining the women-only club as their preferred exercise venue. The population surveyed is diverse in respect to age, race, and previous experience. The survey questions explore the effects of previous participation in sport, physical activity, and what physical education had on the selection of a segregated exercise venue. The reasons for selecting a women-only venue have implications for programming in physical education and physical activity.
