How Do You Make a Square Peg Fit Into a Round Hole? Suggested Safety Guidelines for Sport Facility Modifications
Sport facilities are often built with little forethought about the actual activities that may take place there. While common sense should reflect safety considerations, this is not always the case. Equally unfortunate is the lack of availability of guidelines regarding appropriate distances between activity areas and barriers such as walls and fences. The goal of this presentation is to identify existing safety guidelines and offer risk management strategies when the facility design may not allow it. Areas discussed include, but not limited to, indoor track facilities, wrestling mats, volleyball/basketball courts, weight rooms, and swimming pools.
