Addressing Motor Skill Proficiencies in Teacher Preparation Candidates |
The purpose of this session is to present how changes in Central Michigan University’s teacher preparation program have impacted the degree to which teaching candidates model and teach fundamental and activity-specific motor skills. The ability of teaching candidates to know key elements of form, model their execution, and provide learners with effective remediation is critical to teaching physical education content. Central Michigan’s program includes standardized motor skill assessments across the program. It holds students accountable for becoming proficient performers and uses competent movers as tutors, thus providing opportunities to teach students how to assess and remediate. |
