Teaching Versus Coaching: The Great Debate Lingers On |
An interactive workshop that will continue the focus on female undergraduate teaching/coaching perspectives and their socialization process, mixed messages between each role, unique challenges facing women, and the prioritization of coaching over teaching. From the perspective of five former female collegiate student-athletes, this interactive workshop presents “teaching” and “coaching” practices used in methods courses and solutions from the induction phase. Topic discussions include: mentoring females, inherent differences between teacher and coach, and realization of role differences and expectations. Interactive activities will present roles, challenges, triumphs and pitfalls of pre-service and in-service women in new teaching-coaching positions, and the concern for low numbers in professional roles. |
