Intermediate Modern Dance Technique Class |
This class focuses on the Martha Graham technique. In celebration of NDA’s 75 years as the leader in dance education, the historical perspective of the birth of modern dance in America is discussed, beginning with the opening of the Denishawn School and the two major, pioneering philosophical and technical "offshoots" - Martha Graham and Doris Humphrey. Historical aspects of how the technique evolved and Graham’s philosophical approach to her technique and choreography are reviewed. The class begins with traditional floor work, moves to center floor exercises, and concludes with choreographic sequences. An intermediate level of dance technique is required as the class moves briskly. |
