Set-up and Tear-down of a World-Class Pool in 22 Days – A Case Study of the World Swimming Championships in Conseco Fieldhouse |
The 7th FINA World Swimming (25m) Championships marked one of the most incredible uses of a temporary facility within a major spectator venue by converting a basketball arena into a world-class swimming venue. This session details the planning, around-the-clock construction, and tear-down processes utilized for this massive undertaking. Consideration of the financial aspects of the event such as facility costs, spectator revenue, and the economic impact will be discussed. Participants will learn of the competitive, financial, and facility usage successes of the 2004 FINA Swimming Championships, and consider its implications for facility managers and event planners. |
