Reconciling Religious Ethics with Sport Ethics: An Increasing Dilemma |
This program will explore the dilemmas facing athletes with strong religious/faith ethics, which often extend past the social/cultural ethics of their social world, in an increasingly aggressive, "win at all costs" sporting world. The central question addressed will be how do these athletes reconcile the need to stay true to their beliefs while doing "what it takes" to be successful in sport. Both empirical and anecdotal data on the perceptions of the dilemma facing religious athletes in sport will be presented along with ideas about how athletes can cope with staying 'true to their faith' and 'true to their sport.' |
