Self-Fulfilling Prophecy and Player Performance: Implications for Coaches and Athletes
The idea that coach’s expectations significantly impact athlete performance is well documented. Interactive influences between self-confidence, expectations and attribution theory provide theory driven and practical implications for both coaches and athletes. This presentation will be driven by ten years of practical experience with Olympic and world class athletes with focused application for coaches and athletes at all levels. Practical strategies will help the participant identify the self-fulfilling prophecy cycle in his or her own coaching practice and learn techniques, strategies and guidelines for breaking the cycle and maximizing athletic performance.
