Fitness Programs for Older Adults (FPOA): Balance, Fall Prevention, and Mobility--Guidelines for Physical Activity for Older Adults |
Preserving BALANCE is one of the most important things a person can do to maintain independence and age well. As one ages, falls become progressively more common but they are not an inevitable part of the aging process. Prevention of falls is possible. At the conclusion of this all-day workshop, participants will be able to understand the importance of maintaining balance system integrity; have a basic understanding of sensory/motor integration in balance maintenance, teach basic exercises to prevent deterioration of balance, administer basic functional balance tests, and implement a balance program for incorporation into a well-rounded exercise program. |
