The Visual System and Dance: More than Just a Mirror Image
How can we help our students move beyond blank stares or eyes glued to the mirror to use vision as a powerful learning and performing tool? This movement session will introduce current information about the visual system and explore its relationship to dance, including the role of vision in learning material, detecting and correcting errors, and enhancing performance. Movement experiences will illustrate how to utilize this information in dance classes and performance situations. Topics to be explored include performance focus, kinesthetic and environmental awareness, imagery in verbal feedback, and visualization techniques.
