Modifying Sports For Older Adults
There are numerous adults participating in recreational sports. Some activities can be continued well into later life (e.g. golf and bowling) while others require some modifications as people become older (e.g. basketball, volleyball, track, and hockey). The purpose of this program is to describe and demonstrate some of the modifications that can be made to the rules, equipment, and skills of selected sports that permit adults to continue to enjoy the benefits of participation, as they grow older. This program is a collaborative venture by The Council for Aging and Adult Development and The Council for Lifelong Recreational Sports.
