NDA College/University Dance Educator of the Year Presentation: University Practicum Experience Extends Dance into the Community
Interested in expanding dance education opportunities for your students? The University of Northern Iowa offers the program, Young Peoples Dance Theatre (YPDT) that brings dance to children in the local community. The program provides a practicum for interested university students who facilitate a before and/or after school dance experience for elementary school children. Learn about the structure and content of YPDT as a model to increase dance education opportunities. The University of Northern Iowa's YPDT serves as a model program for dance and physical educators who are interested in providing their pre-professional students with dance education opportunities as well as in providing dance experiences for children in elementary schools. The primary focus of YPDT is creative dance, but it also includes an emphasis on multicultural dance during the fall semester and an exposure to ballet, jazz, and tap dance during the spring semester.
