Biomechanics of Strength Training
The objective is to overview the scientific foundation regarding the use of certain techniques, styles, equipment, and positions during strength training activities. We will focus on upper body and core training exercises. We will clarify the principles of overload and specificity of training by demonstrating the application of muscle mechanics (force-velocity and length-tension relationships) and joint mechanics (muscle and resistance moment arms). Electromyography and videography will aid in illustrating these principles. The session will be of interest to strength and conditioning specialists, personal trainers, athletic trainers, coaches, physical educators and anyone with instructional responsibility in biomechanics or strength and conditioning.
