Game Shaping: A Tool For Teachers |
Game shaping (Launder, 2001) is an important tool for the successful implementation of the Teaching Games for Understanding model (TGfU). Griffin, Mitchell, and Oslin (1997) developed tactical frameworks for different classifications of sport and, quite rightly, proponents of the model initially focused on student motivation to play “the game.” What has received less attention until recently is the importance of building confidence in teaching the TGfU model (Griffin & Butler, 2005). Game shaping helps teachers understand how to design developmentally appropriate games and consequently be more successful in teaching through the game. This session is for teachers and teacher educators. |
