Preparing Students to Promote Physical Activity in the "Diverse" Community |
Diversity can be difficult to discuss among college students (especially a non-diverse population) and is sometimes avoided in an exercise and sport s(ESS) curriculum. Two professors will share their experiences of teaching a diversity course to a male-dominant, homogeneous group of ESS majors through the utilization of a service learning approach. Specifically, the speakers will focus on successful strategies to implement a service-learning course that addresses physical activity promotion and diversity, and the challenges and rewards for both students and instructors. Attendees will be provided with a syllabus and sample activities for use in the development of a similar course. |
