Holding Her Hand- A Comprehensive Sexual Health Education Program for African American Girls and their Mothers or other Mothers |
African-American girls represent some of the largest numbers of teens with STD's and HIV/AIDS infections. This session will provide an overview of the total program including four major themes with eight lessons. This session reaches out to African-American girls ages 11-13 and their mothers (or "other-mothers," a significant older female). The lessons include knowledge about puberty and sexual and reproductive health issues, and build life-skills for African-American girls. Interwoven into these sessions are an emphasis on the impact of media and cultural messages about gender that can affect girls’ decision-making and ultimately their sexual health. |
