Implications of Title IX on Female Coaching Patterns at the High School Level |
Since the advent of Title IX, girls and women have had an increased opportunity to participate in all levels of sport. Despite the increase in female participants and coaching positions, there has been a decline in the proportion of women in the coaching ranks. Few studies have examined female head coaches at the high school varsity level. The purpose of this study was to determine trends related to the declining numbers of females in varsity head coaching positions in California high schools. Findings will be discussed with special attention given to trends exhibited in certain sports. |
