Adventures in Physical Fitness
Health-related fitness components, principles of fitness development, and means of fitness assessment are all essential content for physical educators to teach students (NASPE Standard 4). Adventure education is an excellent vehicle for developing components of fitness and for teaching fitness concepts. While students may complain about doing traditional fitness exercises, they eagerly attack physically demanding adventure activities. This program provides participants with an overview of essential content physical educators should teach with respect to physical fitness and will show how adventure education can be used as the vehicle to address that content. Participants will learn a variety of adventure activities.
