Jump Now, Play Later: Combating Knee Injuries through Jump Training in PE and Sport |
ACL injuries in athletes are explained in part by extrinsic factors such as poor neuromuscular control, and improper landing techniques. This session includes a brief description of how and why knee injuries occur in both girls and boys and feature fun and functional jumping and landing activities which can by used by PE teachers and youth sport coaches to take a preventative approach to the problem of knee injuries. Activity ideas for developing neuromuscular coordination, strength, skill, and understanding will be demonstrated utilizing a variety of instructional strategies including individual and group challenges, sport-specific movements, progressions, plyometrics, and visual feedback. |
