Snowshoeing for Schools and Community: Curing Winter Inactivity
This session shares an innovative approach to encourage students and families to participate in winter outdoor activities. Presenters will share a successful urban and rural school snowshoe program that can be implemented with or without snow. Session includes sample curriculum, interactive games, snowshoe techniques, and resources for extending the activity beyond the classroom, and into the community. This lifetime activity teaches core values of teamwork, cardiovascular fitness, and environmental awareness. Implementation ideas will be shared on including all ages and ability levels. This session offers teachers and recreation professionals an opportunity to participate in this outdoor winter activity.
