Living on the Edge
Traditionally, physical education programs and teachers have been marginalized within the school curriculum and culture because of a number of factors including: perceived importance, programmatic support, facilities, and personnel. Physical educators fight for recognition and support in spite of the recent emphasis on the obesity epidemic and the growing evidence of the relationship between physical activity and enhanced brain function and disease prevention. Through dramatization (skits) and audience participation this session will focus on the issues related to the marginalization of physical education and how physical education teachers and teacher educators can address these issues.
