Oral Sex & Young Teens: The New Third Base?
Nora Gelperin, Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ

Media reports abound about young teens engaging in oral sex, usually girls giving oral sex to boys in public places. This trend in adolescent sexual behavior may reflect a new cultural meaning for oral sex, evolving from an intimate act to foreplay or "third base". This workshop will provide health professionals with the opportunity to clarify their values about oral sex and strategize ways to address this complex issue. Participants will be encouraged to take off their “adult glasses" and consider a developmental perspective. Professionals must check their own biases and develop programs that are age-appropriate for early adolescents.
