R. Tait McKenzie – A Distinguished Physical and Health Educator, Physician, and Sculptor
Who was this distinguished gentleman who immortalized the Golden Age of Sport in bronze? A man of remarkable achievements in art, medicine, and physical education was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada in 1867 and died in Philadelphia in 1938. As a physical educator he was an athlete, teacher, director of physical education and a leader in the professional organizations of these disciplines. McKenzie was a determined idealist, striving ever mightily for the realization of his ideas and goals. Dr. McKenzie is recognized as the Founding Father of the contemporary Physical Education movement both in Canada and the United States of America. Join us, the Canadian AHPERD in keeping alive the philosophy and ideals of this inspirational leader.
