Forum on the International Year of Physical Education and Sport
This exciting international forum will present ideas about the important role of sport and physical education in the development of and understanding among world communities. Discussion will focus on the key roles professionals can play in increasing international understanding and cooperation through sport and physical education. Leader experts will present initiatives and plans of various international organizations, including AAHPERD, about how we are addressing the U.N.’s resolution designating 2005 as the International Year of Sport and Physical Education. Secretary-General Kofi Annan told correspondents in New York on the launch of the Year, "Sport is a universal language. At its best it can bring people together, no matter what their origin, background, religious beliefs or economic status. And when young people participate in sports or have access to physical education, they can experience real exhilaration even as they learn the ideals of teamwork and tolerance.".
