Brain-Compatible Dance Education
As teachers we are always concerned with “Best Practices.” Now there is a wealth of information on what Best Practice means, how the brain functions and how teachers and students can work together to create the best learning environment. Dance educators can use this information to provide brain compatible dance education for all students at all levels of development and learning. It is time for our whole profession – studio teachers, teaching artists, physical educators, college professors, teacher trainers, dance specialists - to look at how we teach and what we teach. Are we providing the BEST dance education for the 21st century or are we using techniques rooted in a past that may no longer be healthy or effective for today’s students? In this practical workshop, through an overview of the BrainDance and brain-compatible learning, we will explore ways to use brain research to help us be better teachers. The workshop will be a combination of discussion and dancing and will be presented using brain compatible techniques. The workshop is applicable to all dance educators at all levels (preK-adult) and in all settings (studio, classroom, gym, university, recreational).
