Adapted Physical Activity Issues from Professional Preparation to Professional Development
Developing meaningful professional preparation and continuing education opportunities to deliver services to children with disabilities can be challenging. Part I of this presentation depicts processes taken to develop an adapted physical activity program within the university community. Topics: facilities, equipment, recruiting participants, promotion, and linking undergraduate/graduate level courses to the APA program; Part II describes one university’s undergraduate practicum experience. Topics: collaboration with LEAs, technology, assessments, IEPs and lesson plans, teaching evaluations, transportation, and programming concerns; Part III highlights one university’s efforts to assist professionals delivering APE services to satisfy physical education certification requirements through taking continuing professional development units.
