Dealing with Puberty and Adolescence
Participants will review the causes and issues associated with early puberty and associated psychological, social, and emotional implications. Gender differences and developmental factors will be discussed in relationship to self-esteem. The influence of culture, media, technology, and environmental factors will be examined. Ideas for shifting youth risk-taking from destructive to constructive behavior will be illustrated. Suggestions for empowering youth as advocates for health will be discussed. Promising research and practices will be presented.
