Know Your Numbers for a Better Life: A Statewide Initiative of the Mississippi Chronic Illness Coalition
Mississippi's status as leading the nation with the highest prevalence of obesity and tying for second with Florida for diabetes has contributed to Mississippi's having the highest nationwide burden of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. To address this issue, the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Mississippi Chronic Illness Coalition initiated a statewide program known as the "Know Your Numbers" (KNY) Campaign. The lifestyle issues of overeating, inactivity, and stress management are addressed in the KNY program. The "Know Your Numbers" campaign is designed to educate and motivate participants to develop healthier lifestyles and understand the relevance of these health measures.
