The Embedded Curriculum: Interdisciplinary Teaching with Outdoor Adventure Activities
One or more interdisciplinary lessons will be demonstrated to show how outdoor adventure activities provide ideal opportunities for meeting physical education and health standards. A primary objective of this session is to emphasize the embedded curriculum that usually remains hidden unless there is an intentional teaching plan. It is easy to miss opportunities to help students make connections with concepts and skills from their other subjects and with actions that exhibit positive character qualities. Planning and implementation strategies will be presented and discussed for using standards from grades 5 through 12 in a variety of subject areas.
