Learn How to Empower Women to Live IN Their Bodies
Workshop will address how PETE professionals and coaches can enable their female students and athletes to challenge the pervasive idea that female bodies are valuable for their form, not their function. Workshop will discuss and demonstrate how an interdisciplinary college course combined psychological theory and research on women’s sexual objectification with experiential activities (including outdoor recreation, martial arts, and strength training) to empower students to overcome the barriers that discourage girls and women in our culture from developing their physical potential. Participants will be provided with a syllabus and sample materials for use in the development of similar courses.
