Understanding Why (or why not) People with Disabilities are Physically Active
The objective is to discuss two different motivational theories in an attempt to explain the physical activity behaviors of people with disabilities. Research from disability, sport, and exercise psychology subject areas will be integrated using Bandura’s social cognitive theory and Harter’s mediational model of global self-worth. Discussion will focus on different components of each theory with specific reference self-efficacy and self-worth, and the central role each plays in motivation. Attention will then center on important practical implications for to enhance the motivation of individuals with disabilities to be physically active.
