Disordered Eating: Developing a Referral Plan
What is the best way to help someone with an eating disorder? Does your institution have a public policy? What is expected of you? Should you confront them? What should you say? To whom should you refer them – school nurse, physician, counselor, psychologist, dietician, etc.? Due to the increase in the incidence of disordered eating and eating disorders, you may encounter an individual ‘at risk’ for an eating disorder or with an eating disorder. The best start in helping someone with a possible eating disorder is to have a plan.
