Community Intervention to Increase Physical Activity - Web-based Walking Program
Scientific literature documents the value of physical activity in contributing to good health and disease prevention. Research indicates that community wide interventions can be highly successful in motivating individuals to engage in physical activity. Using community intervention strategies the University of Florida introduced a 12-week walking program (Gators on the Go) that included a web based tracking system to allow participants to track their progress toward individual goals. The purpose of this presentation will be to describe the effectiveness of the web-based program in supporting individual goal attainment related to physical activity, and demonstrate the use of the tracking program.
