WORDMOVES: A Simple Model for Dance Improvisation
Dance teachers and Physical Educators are often challenged to lead dance improvisation. This session introduces a simple and practical improvisational model that is based upon word meanings. WORDMOVES uses verb and adverb cards that focus on movement basics: body, space, time, and relationship. From randomly chosen words, students use creative problem-solving to design a unique group dance. In this session participants chart, discuss, improvise, and build a dance based upon movement qualities of the action words. Participation, handouts, and practical applications to dance and physical education classes.
