Highlights from a Collaborative (University) Teaching Effort between Physical Education and Recreation
This session highlights the collaborative teaching efforts of a physical education professor and a recreation professor. In response to the call for alternative forms of activity in physical education class, these individuals created a university course that focuses on responsible use of the outdoors. The course was designed to emphasize the concept of wilderness within the context of American society. Students were certified to teach a wilderness education curriculum (Leave No Trace: National Outdoor Leadership School). As part of a service learning orientation, students spent the last five weeks of class delivering the "Leave No Trace" curriculum in K-12 classrooms.
