Nicotine Dependence Programs: Health Educators as Clinical Leaders for Hospitals
Reducing nicotine dependency using programs targeted at both healthcare professionals and patients in hospitals, including smoking cessation programs, was coordinated on a countywide basis by a Health Educator with hospital-based experience and trained as a "Tobacco Dependence Treatment Specialist". Results of trainings with clinicians and interventions with patients will be identified. This presentation will also discuss the activities of the Bucks County Wellness Partnership, a collaboration of healthcare organizations, dedicated to improving the health status of the community. Finally, the growing role of the Health Educator in healthcare and various types of community coalitions will be reviewed.
