Bringing Senior Adults and College Students Together: A Reminiscence Intervention
American seniors living independently in the community often feel isolated and suffer from various health conditions. Reminiscence therapy (RT) has been used in the past to connect the old with the young, resulting in improvements in seniors' perceptions regarding their own health status. In this study, five, one-hour, weekly sessions of one-on-one, reminiscence therapy (RT) was implemented by University of Toledo students with non-institutionalized senior adults. A pretest/posttest design using control, simple visitation, and RT student-senior pair groups was employed in order to detect any differential effects of the RT upon senior participants' perceptions of their wellness and health.
