Teaching Fitness Through Adventure
StructureCouncil for Adventure and Outdoor Education/Recreation
DescriptionFitness is a primary objectives of physical education (standard 4). Adventure education is an excellent vehicle for developing components of fitness. Activities involving climbing, swinging, stretching, pulling, and pushing, performed in adventure activities, make significant contributions to these components. While students may complain about doing push ups and sit ups, they eagerly attack challenging adventure activities that develop these same fitness components. This program will enable participants to learn a variety of adventure activities that contribute to the development of fitness. In addition, they will learn how to use a model of adventure to design adventure-fitness activities.
