Coping with Challenge: Lessons Learned
StructureSchool K-12
DescriptionEstablishing school health councils is a common strategy for developing support for school health programs, including health education. School health councils that seek to introduce or revise health education programs, especially those addressing HIV/AIDS prevention and other sexuality issues, continue to encounter resistance. Presenters will discuss lessons learned from the experiences of school health councils in rural, urban, and suburban settings and share tools and strategies developed by the school health councils to avoid and manage controversy. Participants will be invited to describe their experiences dealing with controversy while building healthy schools in their own communities.
