| Preliminary Program subject to change |
| Assessing Children with Severe Disabilities |
| Structure | Measurement and Evaluation Council |
| Description | Standardized motor tests are inappropriate for children with severe disabilities who cannot perform many if not all of the movements required in these tests. A more functional assessment approach is required which focuses on assessing motor, perceptual, and fitness abilities that are related to a functional goal such as walking with a gait trainer, swimming at a local club, or hitting golf balls at driving range. The purpose of this presentation is to outline a functional assessment approach for children with severe disabilities. Included will be an example of a functional assessment protocol that can guide the assessment process. |
