If It’s Not Baroque Don’t Fix It: Dancing and the Good Life in 16th to 18th Century Europe
Imagined realities, visualization, dancing, and cultural practices are important mind/body experiences to make the past vivid. Armchair history is no longer popular, students want action-based learning, and so in this session, participants journey to 16th to 18th century Europe for a dance history experience. Key dances and styles, etiquette, posture, poetry, music, costumes, and cultural practices associated with Renaissance and Baroque history are learned. The lineage and relationship between these older dances and the cultural diversity of 19th and 20th century social dances is emphasized. Teaching resources are included.
