An Integrative Analysis of U.S. Lifeguard Surveillance Training Programs
This workshop will delineate the visual and psychological processes underlying research based effective lifeguard surveillance procedures. This will enable participants to incorporate evidence based visual and cognitive surveillance/supervision protocols into lifeguard in-service training programs and as well as enable participants to improve their facilities' drowning prevention efforts by applying the Sackett-Burhans Drowning Matrix (SBDM). This matrix utilizes data from a 16 year ongoing New York State Health Department epidemiological study documents 174 contributing factors in 112 drownings at regulated facilities.
