Professional Initiatives and Up-dates
The purpose of this session is to describe current professional initiatives related to health education. Two timely topics will be covered in-depth: the National Board Certification (NBC) for 7th -12th grade school health educators and the National Health Educator Competencies Update Project (CUP). The standards for school health education were developed in 2002/2003. Those attending the session will learn how the certification standards were developed and how to apply for National Board Certification. The five-year study addressed the degree to which existing role definition of the entry-level health educator is still up-to-date, along with development and validation of advanced-level competencies.
