Science-based Physical Education: Designing Physically Active Lessons |
Elementary lessons based on the NASPE standards and the National Science Standards and Benchmarks emphasize life and physical science concepts about fitness, body systems, body position, motion, and forces. This session focuses on key concepts from the National Science Standards and Benchmarks that serve as “natural connections” for science-based physical education. Lessons focus on physically active problem solving, guiding students through the 5 “Es” of engagement, exploration, explanation, extension, and evaluation in each lesson. Example lessons, handouts and websites will be provided to participants. |
