| Initiating a Dance Healthcare Program at the Collegiate Level |
| Because dance is a demanding physical activity, injuries like those seen in athletics are common. Few universities or colleges provide the level of healthcare to their dancers that is offered to their athletes, although a serious need is present. This session will substantiate the demand for a healthcare program for collegiate level dancers, outline steps an institution can follow to establish this valuable asset, and offer examples of such a program in practice. An excellent model is utilizing the skills of Certified Athletic Trainers and other healthcare professionals. A traditional sports medicine approach may successfully be modified for performing arts. |
