Team Building Through the Use of a Portable Challenge Course
Experiential education provides a learner-centered approach to human resource development and organizational change (Coleman, 1995). The portable challenge course has provided team-building opportunities through experimental education for athletic teams that range in age from eight through Division I athletes. The objectives of the portable challenge course are to develop team cohesion through the use of clearly defined physical problems at each station. Upon completing a station, the instructor/coach leads a reflective processing time critical to the success of the instrument. In tackling the elements of the course, team members develop feeling of self-confidence, teamwork, empathy, synergy, and mutual support.
