Social Inclusion: Teaching Students to Understand, Respect, and Interact with a Diversity of Classmates in Physical Activity Settings
The objective of this presentation is to highlight strategies for teachers to promote social inclusion and ensure effective pedagogy that meets national standards in physical education. In this presentation, we will: (a) discuss research on social inclusion; (b) discuss and demonstrate strategies to help teachers engage students in activities that will allow them to demonstrate an understanding and respect for a diversity of classmates; and (c) discuss the implications of social inclusion and the National Standards for Physical Education (NASPE, 1995) for teacher preparation and practice.
